About the Statewide Vision Resource Centre

The Statewide Vision Resource Centre is a Victorian Department of Education & Training facility located in Melbourne, Australia.

The aim of the Statewide Vision Resource Centre is to promote an understanding of the educational needs of students who are blind or have low vision; and to provide resources and information to students, schools, families and the wider community.

The Statewide Vision Resource Centre supports eligible students with vision impairments through:

an annual program of professional development - for Visiting/Itinerant Teachers (Vision Impairment), school personnel (class and subject teachers, integration aides and assistants, specialists including physiotherapists, occupational therapists etc), parents and members of the school and wider community
production department - production of alternative format materials including braille, large print, audio tape, electronic text (e-text)
lending library - alternative format materials, reference materials, toys and testing materials etc
assessment and consultation - by staff of the Statewide Vision Resource Centre; support through Visiting/Itinerant Teachers (Vision Impairment)
annual program of camps and activities for students
newsletter produced fortnightly during school term time - “The Bulletin”
referrals to other agencies - eg orientation and mobility, prescription of low vision aids etc
